Summer will arrive in full force in Alabama this week.
High temperatures will be solidly in the 90s as the work week begins and will climb through the week, peaking with triple-digit heat in parts of the state on Thursday, Friday and maybe even Saturday, according to forecasts from the National Weather Service.
And that’s just the air temperature. Combine that with Alabama summer humidity levels and you’ll get heat index values well over 100 degrees.
The heat is already cranking up in southwest Alabama as of Sunday, and a heat advisory has been issued for Mobile and Washington counties.
The National Weather Service offices in the state are anticipating having to issue more heat advisories for more of Alabama later this week.

Higher rain chances could help keep temperatures a bit lower in parts of Alabama, but those that don’t get rain by afternoon could really feel the heat.
The hottest days this week could end up being Thursday, Friday and Saturday. Thursday’s temperature forecast is at the top of this post.

The extreme heat that has been baking parts of Texas and Louisiana will shift a little to the east this week, leading to increasing temperatures for Alabama as the first full week of summer gets going (the summer solstice was last Wednesday, June 21).
The weather service will be monitoring air temperatures and also the heat index, which measures the combination of heat and humidity.
The heat index could climb as high as 107 to 111 degrees on Sunday afternoon in southwest Alabama. The rest of Alabama could see heat index values above 100 degrees later this week as well.
Rain chances on Sunday will be higher for much of Alabama, which could keep some spots from getting really, really hot.
But those rain chances will begin to decrease on Monday and through the week, which could allow Alabama to really heat up.
There will be chances for pop-up rain and storms in the forecast statewide this week, however.
How long will this heat last?
The Climate Prediction Center’s 6- to 10-day temperature outlook, which covers the June 30-July 4 timeframe, shows a high chance of above-average temperatures for Alabama:
